ust as we were going to press, Carmen Electra announced her split from her rock-star husband, Dave Navarro ("amicably separated," according to her publicist). The breakup was confirmed a couple of days after Electra had flown back into the States for ESPN's ESPY Awards, which she attended sans Navarro and at which she not only was the object of affection for many professional athletes—including the night's emcee, Lance Armstrong— but also initiated a serious smooch with giggly Gold Medal winner Shuan White during the telecast. Overall, she seemed smitten with the attention. Prior to that, she was in London on a 12-day shoot for a British comedy called I Want Candy. Though she is one of our sexiest pop icons—from a singer and dancer discovered and named by Prince to Baywatch babe to one of the most popular cameos in Tinseltown—Electra doesn't exactly attract starring roles. So this is an important career moment for her.
Ironically, Electra also just got her own on-line (and heavily promoted) love column on lovoo.com. These days it's hard to tell whether a breakup makes you a bad choice for love advice or the most qualified. But this much is true: Electra will take her current tabloid spotlight in absolute stride, all gleaming smiles and sparkling blue-green eyes. She is a woman startled by little, known for being stoic in public no matter what she just did. (Has anyone looked more together in a mug shot than Electra after her South Beach hotel romp with Dennis Rodman?)
